Sea Brick: Natural Dye Printed Wall Art
A screen printed textile study of a brick, worn down by the tides and washed up in the Firth of Forth. Printed with iron and oak gall dyes on an intensely quilted linen background.
Bricks that have been worn down over time wash up on the beach that I live near, and the holes in them make them what I call ‘hag bricks’, like an industrialised version of the hagstone. A 20th Century relic connected to ancient folk beliefs.
This collection of wall hangings is a capsule of my experiences in nature through the seasons in Scotland.
