Hagstone and Shell: Natural Dye Printed Wall Art

Hagstone and Shell: Natural Dye Printed Wall Art
A screen printed textile study of a found stone and a scallop shell, made with madder and buckthorn on an iron dyed linen background.
Bricks that have been worn down over time wash up on the beach that I live near, and the holes in them make them what I call ‘hag bricks’, like an industrialised version of the hagstone. A 20th Century relic connected to ancient folk beliefs. This one sits next to a scallop shell in its obvious natural beauty.
This collection of wall hangings is a capsule of my experiences in nature through the seasons in Scotland.
